Supreme Court Grants Bail to Sanjay Singh
Today, I bring you the latest political developments from India. The Supreme Court of India has made a significant decision by granting bail to sitting Member of Parliament and Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader, Sanjay Singh. This decision comes after Singh had been in custody since his arrest in the excise policy scam case last month. The Enforcement Directorate made the arrest, alleging his involvement in the said scam.
In a surprising turn of events, even Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Manish Sisodia found themselves facing arrest in connection to the same case. The ED identified Kejriwal as the alleged mastermind behind the scam, while Sisodia is also under the scanner.
Adding to the narrative, Aam Aadmi Party leader and Minister in the Delhi government, Atishi, raised some serious concerns. She claimed to have received a call from someone associated with the BJP, warning her and four other opposition leaders, including herself, about potential arrests by central agencies if they did not align with BJP. The candidates selected hail from various states including Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, and West Bengal. Among the notable mentions is Sharmila Reddy, who has been fielded from the Kapar seat in Andhra Pradesh. Sharmila Reddy, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, joined the Congress Party earlier this year and was swiftly appointed as the new president of the party’s Andhra Pradesh unit.
In a strategic move, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also revealed the names of two candidates for the upcoming Punjab polls. This comes following the earlier announcement of eight candidates from Punjab, although one candidate recently switched allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
